CIEDA aims to achieve the following:
i. Promote socio-economical sustainable development in the area to meet the growing community’s basic needs now and in the long-term.
ii. Provide training to parents and leaders to encourage children to be educated christianly.
iii. Raise funds to fund community-oriented projects that will provide services to the community.
iv. Encourage and assist individuals, groups and families to be self-reliant to support them in the long run.
v. Establish partnership with funding agencies to meet the require goals.
vi. Support and reach out to other needy areas and promote the idea of ‘Thanks Giving’ for community development.
vii. Promote healthy living standards and provide training and awareness to fight against various diseases that kills people.
· Education: The illiteracy rate is very high; there are run-down facilities for schools in rural communities and limited ability to cater for more students (there are at least twice that many school age children in the community) ;No complex in which to hold much need health (including HIV prevention and nutrition classes), economic and lifestyle education and training sessions for adults; no facility for church or community celebrations. Through Christian schooling, training and awareness would be the only solution.

· Health: Poor state of health clinic - no beds, electric lighting or running water; poor living conditions in community, poor nutrition and very limited health education lead to easy spread of illnesses;
· Employment: Most people are unemployed villagers and need special basic skills training. There is no electricity and no local industry. However, the community is keen to establish cash crops and animal farming if seeds and breeding stock could be accessed and markets developed. Integrating of art and craft skills would be need if materials were provided.
· No defence against drought: Acess to water is some miles away from homes and people walk distance to collect water for cooking, drinking and washing. Having simple water projects such as purchaing tanks, setting up pressure water pumbs and other water supply projects into rural villages will have a great impact to the community.

The goal of Community Integrated Educational Development Agency (CIEDA) is to establish a development program whose purpose is to produce people of strong spiritual, mental , physical and moral character to work with the sick and needy. This is accomplished through the training of local people as Community Development Educators. The CIEDA will in turn serve their neighbors by teaching disease prevention, health promotion, sustainable development, spiritual development and mental development in a christian way. CIEDA includes water purification, sanitation, agriculture, nutrition, maternal and child care, home care and prevention of disease, christian schooling as well as how to live a life that cares about and assists our neighbors. The intent of a CIEDA program is to raise up local nationals as volunteers who will be models and share the truths they have learned with their neighbors in the home setting. The program is designed to go to the people, being transferable, multipliable, and ongoing after the training team leaves the area. Community development is approached from a moral and christian perspective, one which commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Therefore, if we love one another, we will truly be concerned with the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. We want to help people live a more meaningful, abundant life. If people are to reach out to their neighbors, they must be willing to do good to their neighbor and see their neighbors as having ultimate worth. To facilitate changed behavior, a modification in knowledge and attitudes needs to take place. This involves how we view ourselves and relate to our neighbors. Therefore, teaching human values is included in the training to foster a cooperative approach of all people in the community. Teachings in the Holy Books tell us we are to give food and drink to those in need, take in strangers, clothe the naked, visit the sick and those in prisons. We are called to serve the whole needs of a person. This involves dealing with health needs,educational needs, spiritual needs and whole being of a person and training others. |
